Renault Twingos are popular cars and with the ultimate performance parts you can dramatically increase your driving experience. The light weight and small size means they respond very well to even slight power increases. The only thing holding you back in your Twingo project is time, money and your imagination With the right mods your Twingo can be transformed into an awesome motor. Don't waste money, do your homework and follow our unbiased guides to each performance upgrade to avoid disappointment. Many Twingo owners uprate the handling of their cars with suspension parts as a priority, this will certainly increase your enjoyment of the car. We suggest that you fit motorsport suspension and lower the car by 30-35mm. Larger drops require arch work - especially on models already equipped with uprated suspension. Our aim in Twingo engine tuning should be to increase peak power and Torque at the top end. Twingo make good sleepers if you debadge them and fit the most powerful engine mods and handling upgrades you can source! To be completely frank and honest, on the more modest engine sizes you are wasting your time spending money on modifications, so if this applies to you get yourself an engine swap then apply the following mods. Engine Tuning. Typically these uprated upgrades are usually fitted by our members, decide how far you want to push your car before you start. Getting the right performance modifications for your planned usage of the car is essential. Stage 3 motor sport mods just don't work well on the road difficult in stop start traffic. Best mods for your Twingo Mapping - A Remapped Twingo ECU provides the most advantage for the money, aftermarket ECU upgrades, and inline Tuning boxes are all alternatives. Fast road cams are are often the best upgrade for an engine, but they must be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing and they are not always easy to source but you might find a local firm to regrind a stock camshaft. Air Induction and Exhaust Upgrades - Note that on their own these mods will NOT ADD POWER in most cases, but they can help enhance power after other mods by removing the restriction. Twingo Handling Mods (suspension) - Replacing worn bushings and shocks radically improves your Twingo handling Poly Bushes and Coilovers are typically fitted to achieve this Brake Upgrades - Enhancing your stopping power needs to be near the top of your Mods list. Forced induction upgrades - Adding a turbocharger is the most efficient approach to increase air supply, allowing you to burn more fuel and make more power. Typically one of the most costly upgrades but provides the best gains. Flowing and porting the engine head - for larger gains, you will get better flow and make a more efficient engine if you do this to support your other mods. Twingo Tuning Stages Typical stage 1 mods often include: Sports exhaust,Remap,Lighter flywheel,Alloy wheels,Suspension upgrade (drop 30-40mm),Panel air filter. Typical stage 2 mods often include: Fast road cam,Fuel injector & fuel pump upgrades,Power clutch,Ported and polished head,. Typical stage 3 mods often include: Adding or upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger),Competition cam,Engine balancing,Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves),Sports gearbox. Peak power is nice in motorsport but for a daily driven car you need a long torque band and perhaps extending the rev range. The whole point of our tips is to give a brief overview of customizing upgrades and point you in the right direction, our forum is the place to go for detailed advice and tips on your customized car project, the best tuning mods and all aspects of modding road cams offer one of the biggest performance gains for your money as far as a single modified modifications goes on a NA (naturally aspirated) engine. It improves the intake and exhaust durations and pushes up the power if done right. Ideally you'd add other mods and finish up with a performance chip. TorqueCars would caution you not to go with a motor sports profile cam as this upsets the engines idling and general town driving pushing up the power you will need to uprate to the fuelling. More power needs more fuel. Using high octane fuel is another option if you find you are suffering from pinking or premature ignition on your Renault project after fitting other modified kits. Uprating the injectors is another beneficial modification and will deliver sufficient fuel. If have increased your fuelling with bigger injectors you will also need to get a bigger fuel pump to supply it. Twingo Intake and Exhaust Tuning. Breathing mods are usually next up. Contrary to popular belief there is often very little if any power gain to be had by fitting an induction kit, they only help and are recommended after you increase the engines power to the point where the standard air intake box cannot cope! Induction kits can work well on turbo engines and larger engines (if supplied with a suitable cold air feed or air box), generally though we'd just recommend for Twingo engines you should settle for a sports panel air filter preferably made from cotton. Sports exhausts can help equal out the flow of gases through the engine. But if your exhaust is too big, ie: it's over inches bore, you will lose a great deal of the flow rate and end up lacking power and torque. Head work including a gas flow (ported and polished) and 3 or 5 angle valve job will really help to release the potential of the engine. A good fast road sports clutch will help to keep that power going where it should. Never make false economies or think that a standard clutch to cope. Turbo engines are just begging to be Reprogrammed. You will see massive power gains on most modern turbo charged cars including diesels making a remap one of the most cost effective and massive modifications for your money. We've also seen some tuners playing with twincharging applications and making some impressively high power hikes. Despite the large cost involved adding forced induction to a NA (naturally aspirated) engine will give large power gains. Superchargers are generally easier to add than turbos. With a turbo the power curve is related exponentially to the engine speed making it harder to map. It is easier to map a supercharger because the boost is proportional to engine speed on a linear curve. To cope with forced induction you will usually need to decrease the compression ratio of the engine . Twingo Alloy wheel upgrades. Alloy wheels can help the brake cooling and are usually less heavy than the steel ones. Large Twingo alloys can decrease performance. If you get big alloys you will be changing your final drive ratio. With this in mind endeavour to keep the overall rolling diameter of the wheel your OEM settings. In all cases not going above 16 inches.
